Purpose of the Bill

The purpose of this bill is to modify existing regulations related to the hospitality industry in Minnesota by providing certain exemptions.

Main Provisions

• The bill proposes to exempt special event food stands from the obligation of paying a statewide hospitality fee. This fee is otherwise required from various food and lodging establishments, including boarding establishments, food and beverage service establishments, seasonal and permanent food stands, mobile food units, food carts, resorts, hotels, motels, and lodging establishments.
• The current requirement for businesses to pay this $40 annual fee to the Minnesota Commissioner of Health will remain unchanged for the other types of establishments for each licensed activity.

Significant Changes to Existing Law

• The exemption will relieve special event food stands from the financial burden of the hospitality fee, which could encourage more participation in events and simplify operations for temporary food vendors during special events.
