The bill S.F. No. 2190 proposes a study on the presence of microplastics in meat and poultry sold in Minnesota. It appropriates $1,500,000 from the general fund for fiscal year 2026 to the Commissioner of Agriculture, who will conduct the study in consultation with the Commissioner of Health and the University of Minnesota. The Commissioner may also contract with private laboratories or other entities for the research. Findings and recommendations must be reported to the legislative committees overseeing agriculture and health by February 1, 2026. This is a one-time appropriation.
