This Minnesota House bill proposes funding for Farm to School and Early Care programs for fiscal years 2026 and 2027. It appropriates funds to the Commissioner of Agriculture to support providing more locally sourced foods, including fruits, vegetables, meat, poultry, grain, and dairy, in schools and early childhood education settings. The bill allows for grants to reimburse schools and child care providers for purchasing equipment and agricultural products, provided they participate in the National School Lunch Program or the Child and Adult Care Food Program.

Additionally, $150,000 per year is allocated for a statewide coordinator to oversee farm-to-institution strategies, provide technical assistance, and train farmers and institutions. The Commissioner may also use a portion of state funds (up to 7.5% of awarded federal funds) for administering federal cooperative agreements for purchasing Minnesota-grown foods for institutions such as schools and food banks. The funding is provided under the state's Agricultural Growth, Research, and Innovation Program.
